We use with nouns and when refrring to a person or thing whose identity is known to the speaker. Article agrees with the noun in number and gender.

We use with nouns that have not been specified. Article agrees with the noun in number and gender.
UN – UNA- UNOS- UNAS
Un hombre, una mujer, unos hombres, unas mujeres.
Un apartamento, una urbanización, unos apartamentos, unas urbanizaciones.
